What to Expect
Laying the Foundation for Total Health
Chiropractic care is like building a house: Certain adjustments have to take place in a particular sequence so that, in the end, your entire body stands strong. For example, if you try to build walls before you have a solid foundation, the walls have nothing to anchor to, become weak, and eventually collapse.
This concept applies to your body as well: If something isn’t right with your body's foundation, this issue needs to be addressed before true, holistic health can be achieved. In other words, with chiropractic care, the philosophy is that your body must go through an individualized care program to repair itself correctly and fully.
There are three general phases of chiropractic care:
Phase 1: Relief Care
If you’re in pain when you come into Colopy Chiropractic and Wellness Center, Dr. Joe Colopy’s first objective is to help reduce your pain and get you feeling better as soon as possible. Although the length of treatment depends on the severity of the underlying condition causing your pain, it’s typical for patients to need chiropractic care or adjustments about two to three times per week for four to 12 weeks.
Phase 2: Corrective or Restorative Care
When you start chiropractic care, pain is often the first symptom to disappear, despite the fact that much of the underlying condition remains. Because the condition still exists, another phase of care comes after relief care: corrective or restorative care.
During this phase, muscles and other tissues can heal more completely, and this helps prevent further injury or pain. Corrective or restorative chiropractic helps bring your body back to functioning at 100%. It’s typical to need chiropractic care or adjustments about four to eight times per month for six to 24 months. However, it ultimately depends on your overall health and the severity of your problem.
Phase 3: Wellness Care
Once your body has fully healed and you’re no longer experiencing pain, coming in for occasional chiropractic adjustments can help prevent future complications. In general, the wellness phase of chiropractic care only requires a quick visit to Dr. Colopy’s office about one to four times per month, depending on your lifestyle and goals.
